  1. When I started working from home last year, I was thrilled to be able to cast of all schedules and do what I wanted to when I wanted to. That didn’t work. Now, I’m back to more order in my life, but now it is my order not someone else’s and I’m able to be a little more flexible. I need my parameters to function at my best.

    1. It is taking me YEARS of being home to learn what kind of parameters I need to set. But I know this: I don’t think I could ever go back to letting someone else set parameters for me. I love my independence too much.

  2. I think routines or habits are valuable. I think we tend to end up with routines and habits regardless if we have thought them out or not. I believe we should think them out so they can benefit us like they do you Sandy. I think routines allow a framework to accomplish; allows workable guidelines; allows structure to protect against chaos; saves time as you do not have to think and plan on the go. Short term routines can be of help to us as well to accomplish a goal. I set a goal in January to drink 4 glasses of water a day the whole month and my routine to help that was to drink a bottle before work; one at 10 am; one at 2 pm and one on the way home from work.
We all will have routines and habits; we just have to decide if we want to think them through and set them to help us achieve the things that are important to us.

  3. Such good advice…routines are so foreign to me (obviously not good) and seem so hard to establish. I need a boss. The only time I ever really stuck to a good schedule was when I worked at camp!
Thank you for taking the time to share all of this.

    1. You’ll get it. It may be foreign to you now, but once you get going, you’ll see how beneficial routines can be and you will crave the order. It’s a lot of trial and error. Be patient and full of grace with yourself.
