Ep 169: What I Learned in 2022

January is my jam.

I’m a goal-setter and resolution-maker.
I love clean slates and fresh starts.
I love joining the collective momentum of millions of others in all their Whole 30-Dry January-Gym Membership optimism.

But before I attempt to set any goals for the new year, I begin the arduous process of reflecting on the previous year to discover what I learned. I begin slowly reading through my journal in November. I note patterns and threads and themes. I note losses and wins and transitions.

This practice inevitably reveals the undeniable leading of the Holy Spirit in my life.

It also provides a solid launching pad to determine where to go next.

2022 was probably the most transformative year of my life that wasn’t the direct result of a tragedy, loss, or significant transition. Last year for me was all about forward motion in my work and personal life, resulting in new relationships and opportunities–but not as a result of anything earth-shattering that happened in my circumstances.

It was a bit like riding a new roller coaster for the first time: both exhilarating and scary (but in a safe, this is supposed to be fun but I think I’m gonna throw up kind of way).

If I told you everything I learned this year, this would be a 3-hour episode–it has taken me weeks to pore over my journals and extract it all, even for myself.

Some of the things I learned were highly personal about me or were things I learned about our family or my marriage–I won’t share those. At least not in list form. I will most certainly be sharing that in more organic ways moving forward.

I want to share the things that will be most helpful and/or interesting to you.

Today on the podcast I share 16 things I learned in 2022.
