30 Days of Hearing God, Day 13
I told my pastor today, the worst part of each church service for me is when he says, “One more story, then I’ll quit.” That’s his way of wrapping up a sermon, and I always feel a twinge of disappointment that it’s coming to an end. In my humble opinion, his sermons are entirely too short.
This is the stuff I managed to jot down from, yet, another stellar sermon on Colossians. (which now that I look at it, oddly resembles a series of tweets/status updates.) What I really should do in the future is just print out a transcript of the sermon, because that’s how much God spoke to me today, again.
1. Obeying the voice of God is what will separate me from everyone else who claims to hear Him, yet fails to obey.
2. I need to read the book “The Fire of Delayed Answers” by Bob Sorge
3. I am NOT defined by my past–any event good or bad that happened to me.
4. I am NOT defined by my peers–any label or expectation anyone places on me.
5. I AM defined by Jesus Christ only–His word and what it says about me.
6. Once I know who I am in Christ, I can fulfill my purpose, because purpose flows out of identity. We serve because we ARE somebody, not in order to BE somebody.
7. I am IN CHRIST–this is my story and this is where I should live.
8. I don’t always choose my circumstances, but I do choose my prison–what is threatening to imprison me?
9. One of God’s main purposes is to conform us to His image…when was the last time someone confused me with Jesus?
I think I’ve got a lot to chew on this week, eh?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the last post I will be writing until Saturday or Sunday. I’m traveling to Ohio with my children to visit my family and friends. I’ll be staying with my sister, Pam, who (are you ready for this?) still has dial-up internet service.
She. Still. Has. Dial-up. Internet. Service.
And no, she isn’t Amish. Or backward in the least bit. She’s actually got it goin’ on in lots of ways. Except in her choice of internet service providers. Yes, I’m making fun of her.
I don’t even need to worry about her reading this, because it takes 20 minutes for my blog to upload onto her screen. She never reads it.
Oh what the heck, can we just have a moment of silence for my sister and her husband?
I told my daughter that we can’t take our computers to Aunt Pam’s because she still has dial-up. My daughter said, “What’s dial-up?”
To which I responded, “Exactly.”
So rather than driving into town each day to find a coffee shop with free WiFi, I’ll just take a little bloggy break. I think I’m due, considering in 2 1/2 years of blogging, I’ve never, ever blogged for 13 days in a row like I have the last two weeks.
Besides, I’ve got places to go and people to see. Not that I don’t love you. But these are the people who knew me in the 80’s when I thought I was Madonna. They need to see that I turned out okay.
I’ll leave this linky up all week, if you want to add your links. I promise to read them all when I return. Have a wonderful week…I can’t wait to hear what God is saying to you!
Oooh, That book "Fire of Delayed Answers" looks like a must read!!!!! I'll have to add that to my reading list!
Have a great time at your sister's!!!!
Dial-up….that is precious. Though I have to say, with all of our computer issues these past months I was almost desperate enough to go back….then thought better of it. Have a wonderful week….I'll miss you! Great points on Colossians:)
Sandy ~ have a sweet visit.
Fondly,
Glenda
I just got back from Florida – I did one post because that was about all the WiFi could handle at the hotel. I couldn't even read other blogs because they loaded sooo slowly. Enjoy your vacation!
