OK, so here’s the deal. It’s 8:10 pm and my sweet husband has been working hard to support my i-Tunes habit since 6:15 am. (Thank you, Jon for working your butt off so I don’t have to.) That said, I’ve been on Mom Duty for that exact same amount of time. And I’m tired. And I’m crabby. And my brain feels like mac and cheese. Not even the yummy homemade kind. It’s all boxed, artificially flavored, artificially colored, over-cooked mac and cheese, people.
Did you ever take an analogy so far, that it ceased making sense? I just did.
Which illustrates my point beautifully. I can’t even give you a good analogy!! Basically, what I’m trying to say is—I’ve got nothin’. I would love to post something brilliantly researched and eloquently worded…but it just ain’t happening tonight, I’m afraid.
So I will, instead, give you a completely unsubstantiated, non-researched and unrelated list of
RANDOM FITNESS THOUGHTS~
by, Fitness Friday Girl
(this ought to be interesting, because even as I type this line, I still have no clue what’s coming next)
1. You remember last week when I talked about sugar substitutes? Well, some of you asked me about Stevia and Truvia. I have never tried either, nor have I researched their safety to the human body, so I didn’t mention them in that post. Just wanted to let you know that today, I went to Whole Foods (my happy place, my home away from home, my strawberry fields forever) and bought me some Truvia. I know if Whole Foods sells it, it’s all natural, and that’s a good thing. I will give you the verdict on taste in an up-coming post. Anyone else try this? Is it any good?
2. I hadn’t been to
Whole Foods in months because I was trying to watch the budget. Can I just tell you how much I love that store? I think I teared up and hugged the stock boy when I walked in. I’m thinking we could pull the kids out of private schools so I could afford to shop there every week. They stopped carrying my hummus, by the way. Grrrrr….
3. I’m currently immersing myself in all things
Jillian Michaels. I’ve read
Making the Cut and I’m almost finished reading her new book,
Master Your Metabolism—which I’m thoroughly enjoying and highly endorsing. Her ideas about nutrition are nothing new. I’ve been reading them for years. But
Jillian is bringing the ideas of organic and all-natural lifestyles to the mainstream. And I love her for it. To think, you don’t need to have dreadlocks and wear Birkenstocks to go green!
4. Lots of people who shop at
Whole Foods wear dread locks and Birkenstocks.
5. I am doing
Jillian Michael’s 30-Day Shred DVD a few times a week, along with my weight training and cardio. This workout will kick your bootie. After 6 weeks, I was FINALLY able to complete Level 3 (the hardest level) without stopping today!! Yeah Me! If you are looking for a great workout DVD, I recommend this one. Warning: It’s not for beginners.
6. I would not want to run into
Jillian Michaels in a dark alley.
She would kick my bootie.
7. Since it takes about 6 to 8 weeks for your body to adjust to a workout, I suppose it’s time to move on from this particular DVD. Please don’t tell
Jillian. She may kick my bootie.
8. I’ve been off coffee for a month or two now. I’m drinking tea with honey instead. After the first three days of headaches and lethargy, my energy levels really evened out, which is why I quit to begin with. But today I really had a hankerin’ for some coffee. And since I was at Whole Foods, I found some organic whole bean coffee that looked yummy. I had some this afternoon and was completely jittery. I mean manic-like. Bizarre. But it tasted really good.
9. Speaking of lethargy,
Jillian Michaels says something in her DVD and her book that I just love. She says that people tell you in order to stay fit, they give you advice like “
just take the stairs or park far away.” She calls this a “
false message of lethargy.” And then she goes on to say, “
you are capable of working out and working out HARD.” I think that’s why so many people get frustrated with weight loss. They presume because they walked 10 additional parking spaces today, the pounds should just melt away. It doesn’t work that way. Don’t you wish it did?
10. Speaking of working out hard, let me take this opportunity to emphasize that pushing your body past its comfort zone is the only way you will see real change. So if you’ve tried “everything” and can’t lose weight, you probably aren’t pushing yourself hard in your workouts. I mean, really, really hard. Like, feeling like you are going to die hard. Like sore the next day hard. Push yourself hard, and you will see results.
11. I have never seen the movie Die Hard.
12. It’s human nature to put forth the least amount of effort, hoping for maximum results. We all do it. When will we learn that real change requires real effort?
13. After I go to the
She Speaks Conference in July, I’m going to work on getting my personal trainer certification. Then I’ll REALLY know what I’m talking about. And I’ll be charging you by the hour for visiting my blog.
14. Summer is coming for those of us in the mid-west and northern regions, and it’s a great time to motivate yourself to get healthy and lose a few pounds. The weather is nice enough to be outside. Local produce is starting to look fabulous. And there’s nothing better than the smell of dinner cooking on the grill. Which, consequently, happens to be a very quick and healthy way to prepare your food.
15. Setting mini-goals is a great way to reach your fitness goals without getting overwhelmed. Try setting one for this month! Something small. Attainable. It will give you motivation to continue.
16. Louisville thinks it’s Southern, but it’s not. It’s very Mid-West. They think sweet tea in their restaurants qualifies them for Southern status. But, trust me—after living in the North and the South, it’s definitely neither. It’s Mid-West.
17. Sweet tea has a ton of sugar in it. I advise you stick to water. That would be a great mini-goal! Switch to water!
18. I have no idea why I’m numbering these.
19. My favorite
American Idol contestants all made the TOP THREE. I’m so excited. Two of them are worship leaders! How cool is that? Speaking of worship leaders, I need to ask mine to cut rehearsal SHORT next Tuesday for the finale.
20. I made the best salad the other day with the stuff I had on hand. It was the perfect combo of sweet and salty and it was so pretty. Should have taken a picture of it. But I didn’t. I’m too busy watching American Idol.
Here’s the recipe:
Mixed baby romaine
Baby spinach
sliced strawberries (in season…yum!)
cubed cantaloupe
True North pecan and almond nut clusters
crumbled turkey bacon
grilled chicken that had been marinated in balsamic vinaigrette dressing
Drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette dressing
21. The following words are highlighted after my spellcheck: Grrrrr, bootie, and hankerin. I’m not changing them. And I’m feeling a little rebellious because of it.
That’s it. I’m out of Random Thoughts. I pray you were able to pick something useful out of this post today. And I’m opening up the comments to leave your own random thoughts. They don’t have to be fitness related. Just anything. Get crazy.
Aww poor baby. Get some rest tonight sweet one.
LOVED YOUR TIDBITS OF GREAT INFO. I'm linking you to my sight right now before bed because I probably won't be online tomorrow.
Bless you. I'm going to check into Jillian. Sarah told me about her.
Love ya!

Totally entertained by your random thoughts! I love Jillian's quote, "We don't drink our calories." KY not Southern-you could get kicked out of the state for that one!

So many great points! I appreciate your words on Jillian's 30 Day Shred. I just did my first day of Level I (you can read about it on my blog) – it is good to know that some people actually live to make it to Level 3!
Shalom,
Denise

Sandy, for someone who had nothing planned to write, you rock! I know I can always read your posts and …laugh! You are an entertaining writer for sure. Hmm …I haven't been to Whole Foods in ages. No Birkenstocks for me though.
I've never read Jillian's books or done her workouts but I subscribe to her online. I guess I should really start reading what she writes too.
You made some great points about lethargy in exercise and wanting to do the least. Getting in shape is hard work; I agree! And consistency is so important.
I know this upcoming SheSpeaks will be so good for you.

O.K., I have some comments.
#10 – So THAT'S my problem! Hmmmm.
#13 – I can't wait to hang out with you at She Speaks!
#14 – even if it's hot dogs on the grill??
Have a great day, Sandy!!

After I have this baby girl, I just might pick up that Jillian Michael's DVD. I keep hearing great things about it!
I want to run some 5K's in the fall. And along with running, Jillian's workout sounds perfect.
Get some rest and have a fun weekend!
Blessings,
Kate 🙂

I use stevia. It's great in homemade lemonade and tea with lots of lemon.
I have also subbed it for sugar in baking. Worked out fine for that particular "south beach chocolate cookie" recipe.
I knew Gokey on AI was a worship leader but not Kris. I'm assuming Adam is not the other worship leader you are referring to.
Your salad sounds good. Have you ever gotten the Close Talker salad from Moe's? Sooooo good. I have them add fresh jalapenos and cilantro to mine. Oh my.

I laughed so hard at this post and your mommy brain mush. I need this laugh today.
I'm still busier than ever, but I'm trying to catch up on my blogging while working!
I'm planning on readin Jillian's book while I'm on vacation in June. I just don't have the time to do it right now. I did day 8 of Making the Cut today. For some reason it seems a lot easier for me now – I have no idea why because I haven't done it in months.
Hope you got some rest and had a great mother's day!

Hello, Beverly recommended I check this out. Wow, if this is when you have nothing to say, I'll have to come back when you're inspired 🙂
I enjoyed your tips.
