  1. I resonate with all of these. I’ll add one more.
    14. Did your dad just move in with you? (Mine did – 2 weeks after my mother passed in April. So that would encapsulate your numbers 5, 7, 11 and 12!)

  2. Yes, all of these! But too am I holding too much in? Do I need to just let go and accept things are out of my control? This is key for me when I am in a funk.

    1. That’s a good one. It’s hard for me sometimes to know what I’m responsible for, what I should work hard to maintain vs what I should just let go. I’m constantly learning to adjust this one.

  3. For me, #14 would be: Is this related to the above factors, or is it my depression rearing its ugly head again? (If #9 is a yes, I will remind myself to ask #14 next week.)

  4. I love these questions for self reflection. Sometimes I don’t know why I’m feeling…blah. Thanks for sharing and happy Friday!

  5. I think maybe 14a- related to the ‘Is this depression question?’ “What psychotropic medications am I taking and should I consult with my doctor about trying something different?”

    I know we deal with different things (Sandy- depression, Peter- generalized anxiety disorder/ panic disorder) but I just switched from Zoloft to Wellbutrin and it has made a world of difference for me.

    1. Good point, Peter! Yes, medication side effects should always be a consideration. Especially ones that are known to alter mood and energy levels.

      I’m so glad the Wellbutrin is working for you! I have been off the anti-depressants for about 3 years now and have generally been doing very well. When I do feel like depression is creeping in, I take SAM-e (an over the counter supplement with GREAT reviews!) and that works well for me. I also take D3 which makes a huge difference.

  6. A couple of questions I will ask myself are:
    Have I been drinking enough water;
    Have I read anything that inspires;
    Have I planned my days proactively;
    Have I done anything for someone else.

    1. Mark:

      The water question, I never ask because I drink like a fish. But your other questions…those are fantastic. Those are the questions I should be asking myself EVERY day, not just when I’m in a funk.

  7. I have a similar series of questions and the list usually starts with what I’m eating. A few weeks ago I was in a funk and after being the lowest I’d been in a long time I realized it was stress and a toxic relationship at work. I worked through it in my mind during a trail race last weekend and it was like a lightbulb came on. I weight off my shoulders ah-h moment.

    You’ll figure it out Sandy and you will be back to 100% of your happy energetic self.

    1. Toxic relationships are soooooooo draining. That’s part of my problem right now, too. Mine is a little more complicated, but I know it’s draining the heck out of me.

      Oh, and I just realized I never linked back to you!!! I’m so sorry!. I blame the funk.

  8. These all are good, similar to what I think when I get in a funk. I also ask myself, when was the last time you tried something new and different. I love to get out of my comfort zone, if I do that, and accomplish something new, it usually lifts my spirits and gets me back in the groove.

  9. I would add one more question to the funk questionnaire: Have I been reading The Scoop On Balance? hahaha But I’m only half kidding. When life gets busy and I get behind on ‘me’ time it does affect my mood. And blogs like yours really do help me to keep it all in perspective. And you always seems to remind me of #13, which should be first priority in life but sadly gets pushed aside all too often.

    Side Note: I think I’m also going to check out the site crappypictures.com Recently at a favorite things party one friend said this site makes her laugh out loud and put a smile on her face. Check it out for a laugh.
    Another side note, we got points if we listed something no one else listed, and I didn’t get a point for Favorite Website You Visit Regularly – The Scoop On Balance. There was another gals there who listed it as her favorite. And her name was not Beverly or Tyler. You are loved here in Canada by more people than you know. Maybe that will make you smile today 🙂

  10. I’m pretty good at identifying triggers that lead to a funk and nip them before I’m full blown in a F-U-N-K. Not always, though. My diet, my sleep, my stress level all need to be managed to ensure that I am a happy camper because the other things like my relationships, my ability to hold coherent conversations, and just being a pleasant human being are all affected when I’m off kilter. Which reminds me, I need to go take my Vit D, probiotics, and magnesium and make sure I’m in bed at a decent hour. =)
